I got a 1st Gen AWd.I have gone through 4 turbos within the last year. The people how are building them tell me the same thing, lack of oil. I have checked the oil pressure. At idle it is 30 and reving the motor it jups to about 120psi. I know that seems a lot .,I stared having these problems when i changed the motor over from a FWD 1st gen into a AWD. Their has been no chages to the set up, other than the car. I hve never bother to checked the oil pressure until know. I have pulled the oil pan and the rod an main bearing's look fine. I have checked the return line of the turbo, to see how much oil is flowing through it an it seems enogh.The feed line has always been a #4 line and the return is a #8. I don't know what else to do to it. Does any one have any suggestion.

I don't believe your 120 lbs pressure is anywhere close to right. Your best bet would be to put a known good mechanical gauge on the engine even if it's on a temporary basis. It could be the sending unit on the replacment engine had a different value or has gone south and giving false readings. If as I suspect it's 40 lbs off on the high side what's it getting at idle...

Too much pressure is not going to take out the turbo, it may blow the seals and smoke but won't cause shaft wear.

Who is paying for those 4 turbos??? Just sticking another one in by the time they got to 3 should have been a RED flag something is putrid in Peru. If they really wearing out then you need to put a gauge on the oil feed line to the turbo. For DSM cars I sort of remember the range of 25-35 lbs but someone can check me on that.

If your oil feed to the turbo is not coming off the oil filter housing then invest in that modification but you still need to know exactly what that pressure is so you can make repairs or find another shop before you ruin your engine. I have seen evidence that oil has boiled and burned in the oil feed line on the 1G TSI. This most certainly could then plug up the supply pipe and though your oil pressure is fine for the engine it's not enough for the turbo. Having a major crack in the manifold blowing on that feed pipe could be one source for cooking the oil which then goes back into the engine and sent to the bearings. UGH!! Chances are you could smell that on the end of the dipstick or inside the valve cover.
