My drivers side rear brake started making a scraping noise about a day ago. Last night when I got home I jacked up the rear of the car and could barely turn the drivers side rear tire. It almost seems as if the caliper has clamped the pads down onto the rotor. I checked the other side and it spins freely. I checked the parking brake and loosened it up a bit but that did nothing for the problem. Does anyone have any ideas of where I should start troubleshooting? I am going to look into it tonight but wouldnt mind some suggestions or others experiences with this.

Thanks,

The piston may have seized. Also, the caliper is designed to float on two bolts, and one or both of these may have seized. I've had this happen because the jackass previous owner of my car didn't put enough grease (or the right type) of lubricant on the lock/guide bolts. Fortunately I had a spare set of calipers, but getting the pins out the f'd pair was such a pain in the ass.

How did you get the top lock bolt out? Mine is recessed in the sleeve about 1/2" and you cant get a socket on it. Is there a special tool?

ok this is simple... you con leave the 2 14 mm bolts that attach the caliper to the whole assembly in....undo the lower slider bolt , off the top of my head its a 12 mm... slide the caliper towards you and up, while its there you should be able to push the caliper off the slider ( sometimes you have to undo the little clamp on the e brake line (you'll see it)...if you cant slide the caliper off the pin, then you are gonna have to use force,,, I had to use a 15lb mini-sledge mine was so bad... once off there is a 10mm bolt in there simply clean out the hole the slider goes into and clean the slide, both with a higer grit sand paper, re grease and wahlahh I know the grammar and p0unctuation in this post suck... I work in a mortgage center and its kinda busy......... hope this helps
