well, this is about my 95interga LS again,. i'm replacing my heater core but, it requires to Discharge the A/C and the damn haynes manual didnt have any instruction on the book. i called one of the local shop(firestone), and they told me that it is not that hard to discharge preon and not really dangerous(like said on the manual), or they will have to charge me $35 for labor and it will have to be monday. so, is there anyone here who have done discharging the a/c without going to any shop? i really need to fix my heater core asap. my passenger side floor is soaking wet with the coolant right now.

thanks OMG

Why do you need to discharge your a/c unit if your heat core is bad, those are to seprate things.

NEVER go to a Firestone, Goodyear, AAMCO, Midas or similar nationwide-chain automotive store for service. Find the nearest independant shop that's been around for the longest.

Don't tell me Honda put the core and evaporator near enough that you have to pull the evaporator ot get to the core? Jesus.

It's illegal (Federally) to discharge Freon to the atmosphere. 134a doesn't matter. Keep your fingers well-clear of the cloud, it'll freeze-burn you just about immediately. You'll need the system vacuumed back down to recharge it. If it is a Freon system, you may as well see about changing over to 134a when you re-do it. Any shop that charges _you_ to take your Freon deserves to have a mysterious fire break out.

:shhh: Did that on my dads van when replacing the a/c compressor. Just loosened th bolts on one of the lines and let her rip. It was really loud.

side note: honda/acura service said that they would charge me $700.00 to replace my heater coreOMG i was like..."WTF" jeez

I got into DSMs partly because my '84 200SX Turbo has a heater leak. The service manuals who mention repairing it -I think it was Chilton's, the factory manual said _nothing_ - start with "remove the seats". The dealer checked the book time- 8 hours labor.
I've done GMs where you remove the left front fender to get to the core.
