When driving home (in my 1g Mitsubishi Eclipse) I heard a ticking sound which sounded like it was coming from a wheel. I thought it may be a loose hub cap but, as I accelerated the ticking sound got louder. I than noticed the temp gauge was pegged all the way. I than stopped the car and had it pushed off the freeway. waited for the car to cool down to add water. Than it wouldn't start. After a couple hours it started right up but now doesn't seem to have any power. Any advice of what the problem may be would be much appreciated.

If your temp gauge pegged, you more than likely warped your head and blew the gasket. The ticking sound was knock from your engine being way to hot. You probably have a locked closed thermostat.

Whenever replacing the thermostat, spend the extra dollars and get a fail-safe. They lock open instead of closed which can save you many dollars in the future.

My car just locked the thermostat closed. Luckily, no damage was done. I have the 180 degree fail-safe thermostat in there now (which you shouldn't use without ECU mods). I had a fail-safe in prior, but I was testing some things, so I was using a regular thermostat. It was only 2 years old, and it shouldn't have failed like it did. Live and learn.
