what would cause timing to retard under heavy load and at boost from 6-15 psi. I don't think its knock either.
What signals does the ECU process in order to determine timing

thanx

check for knock inducing boost leaks then...

If you run rich enough from boost leaks, you will get knock, then comes the timing retard =)

got any signs of lifter tick? maybe you have phantom knock?

Also, try dumping in some high octane fuel and running that, see how your timing is after that.

I Agree with the high octane fuel. Once my car was totally empty and my girlfriend took it to a superstore gas bar (dont know if you guys got em in the states, they are like a walmart) and filled it up with their premium. The car ran like total sh*t, retarted timing, but no audible knock or pings. Anyway, I tossed in some octane boosters in and it helped, after I burnt that tank down to half and put some good stuff in, it seemed to work fine.
