okay... i just bought a 97 gs-t 5 speed. it has 85000 miles on it... now heres the problem... when i floor the gas... like lets say a highway race... at around 4200 through 6500 rpm... the power surges rapidly. the turbo it fully running and everything else feels fine.. but the rpms reflect that somethin is going on... is my clutch gone, fuel cut... i dunno... btw the car is totally stock
please help:dsm:

Yah i Have a 90 TsI AWD and I have the same exact problem. When I floor it the car runs fine till about 4k then the engine surges to redline but the car doesnt move as fast as it should. I just want to know if it is the Clutch or Pressure plate or what????? Also if anyone who has done there own clutch job could give me some tips before I try swapping my clutch out.

did you find out whats wrong yet? I know its not fuel cut. but I ordered a new clutch/ pressure plate setup, so I will let you know if that fixes it but im guessing that my clutch is just worn out.

maybe its me... cuz when cold... it doesnt really do it... im fukin confused... this is also my first manual... so far not impressed, but i dunno

It sounds to me like your clutch is slipping,if your mph arent going up with your rpm's you probably have a worn out clutch

my old clutch would start to slip as i built boost

try very slowly accelerating to a high rpm in a ceratin gear and see what rpms your at with a certain speed

then see what rpms and mph combo you get while that situation is going on

Yah when I build boost is when mine slips. Im gonna get a new clutch this weekend and will see what happends.
