I was just outside checking my oil levels and what not and noticed that my drivers side motor mount is busted. The rubber is ripped right out. I already have poly inserts on my front and rear mounts, but what is the best thing to do for the side mounts? From what i've read you shouldn't use inserts on a mount that is busted, so where would be a good place to order complete replacements, or what other options are there? Also, does anybody know if the mounts for a GST would also work with a spyder GST?

OK, I took the friggin motor mount out and hammered some blocks of wood into the lower portion of the mount and it is nice and stiff now. I still want to get performance motor mounts though. I checked my sisters 95 gst and the motor mount is the same, SO my question remains, where is a good place to get motor mounts from? Please keep in mind that the rubber inside of the driver side mount is pretty much destroyed, so I need motor mounts that replace the whole rubber part of the mount.

you could also fill the motor mount with polyurethane used to seal windshields well worth the 10 bucks and will beaf up your motor mount.

Pros and cons of using this fill technique vs. using the Inserts that RRE sales. The stock mounts that are in there now are crap in my case so I would need to replace them before filling thim in... right? Or can I just fill in the cracked Mounts with Poly? Pardon the Rookie question. My goal with this car is Autoxing and drag racing... it will not be a daily driver so vibration is not an issue for me.

If I were building a machine that would be competeing against other well tuned cars, I would want the best possible preformance, That's why I'd suggest for a road/auto-x car to have the broken mounts replaced with brand new mounts, and then filled. I would just fill any of the non broken mounts. Just picture all of that movement that the engine goes through.... Hard acceleration......shift...hard accl....<corner> trail braking.......hard accl.... well you get the picture ;) It's just something not to difficult to do, and eliminates a HUGE weak link.

Thanks,

Mitsu. parts dept. :thumb:

I've got the one here on speed dial, it's what makes you a DSM'er :p

Where can I get the replacement motor mounts... or should I just buy the Poly replacements that RRE sells... I believe I have to have the front Mount intact though?

Pricewise and performance-wise. My understanding is that the RRE set will cost me about $85 and I have to have the front one intact which is not my case I believe... so I still need to buy at least one of the OEM ones. So should I just buy the whole set of OEM mounts and then just fill them?

Well, I get a hookup at the Mitsu dealer here, but I think they should be around 40-50  last time I checked.

But...I just checked Roadrace's site, and the timing belt side replacement is only $30 (which is what the original poster- Mike- was asking about) Looking at RRE's pricing for the full set for motor mounts...
that seems best because those things are really stiff and hold up to abuse well.

Thanks,

I would go for the poly-motor mounts, the pink ones. They are much stiffer than stock. My cousin has them on his 95 GST and the motor moves very little. I personally would go all new and save yourself from having to buy replacements later on.

OK, I ordered a new mount ($50) from the dealership today. I'm thinking I will just window weld that mount when it comes in, thanks for the help everybody.

RRE replacement kit requires that the front mount be intact on the 1G. SO I ended up buying the front mount at the dealership ($29) and will remove the others and use RRE's as an insert on the front and as direct replacement for the others.

Anyone here has used RRE's Poly... how bad is it to remove the OEM rubber? They suggest burning them out... wouldnt that weaken the metal that surrounds the rubber?

So replacing the motor mounts isn't too horrible? I may look into the RRE set then.
