This morning I went to start my car and it just cranked and cranked.... Then I noticed the TMO security was "on". I enter the code and the car starts up. But the radio has no power. This makes me think that maybe a fuse is blown. I check other items and find that the dome lights have no power either. I get out and check the "room" fuse (bottom right fuse) and it's fine. I replaced it just in case, but it still didn't help. I've checked the wiring on the back of the stereo and it seems there is power to the red "power" wire but not to the memory wire. I checked the fuse box and I'm getting power to the fuse for the dome light. To summarize, the stereo and the ECU have no power to their memory wires and the dome lights get no power (no interior lights at all including trunk and map lights. So, where do you guys think I should check now? I'd really like to know where the wiring runs from the back of the "room" fuse as I am getting 12v at the fuse box for that fuse. I really want to track this down. My ECU keeps resetting and my gas milage is gonna suck.

Thanks for reading this.

Did you ever get this fixed? If so, how?

I am having a problem that is similiar. The check engine light that comes comes on after the car has been running for about 5 minutes. Mitsubishi is unable to get an codes from the light though. If I shut the car off, then turn it back on, the check engine light stays out for about five minutes. This led me to believe that the ECU was resetting everytime I shut the car off. Also noticed that the interior lights will not come on when the doors are open. They only work if I manually turn them on on the button. I checked the ROOM fuse and it was ok, but when upon putting it back in, at the exact moment that the fuse contacts the slots in the fuse box, the interior lights come on, then slowly fade out.

Anybody got any ideas what the culprit could be? Is there a relay in there somewhere that has to do with the ecu memory backup and the interior light switch?

I fixed my problem. I took apart and cleaned the switches on the door, then gave them a nice coating of di-electric grease to prevent further corrosion. That fixed the light problem. The check engine light was due to the rebuild shop installing a knock sensor from a 2g on my car, and also the coolant temperature sensor was dead. The whole story with that is covered in this thread:

For the archives. I had a burnt out link inside the fuse box. There are metal bands that run from the wiring in -> fuse -> wiring out. The band had corroded and ended up melting due to the high impedence. I ended up running a wire with an inline fuse from the old fuse location to the output for that fuse in the back. Everything powered right back up. Biggest electrical troubleshoot of my life. After all, who would have thought that the fuse box itself would go bad?
