When I turn corners or accelerate hard in a straight line there is a loud clunking noise coming from the rear end. There is also a howling noise when im going down the highway. The pitch varies with speed.

Whats going on with my car? First the tcase now the rear end wow I feel sorry for this car I don't know how bad the previous owners were to it.

I think I might just take it to satan and have them look at it but I would much rather do it myself.

Thanks

check your wheels and make sure they're not lose and then check how tight the suspention is and make sure nothing is broken. the howling probly ripped weather stripping around the windows and/or rear hatch.

No its not wind noise its definently a mechanical howling. Its almost like the rear differental is slipping or clunking back there the other think i could think of is possible wheel hop? But that wouldn't account for the highway speed howling.

Stupid dsms and all there problems, its to bad their so fun to drive.

lift the rear of you car and check out the wheel bearing. a bad bearing can make a howling sound.

If the wheels are all solid, I guess the problem is elswhere.

I looked over the mitsu manual and it said that it could be damage to the gears thats causing the "abnormal noise" aka clunking. The questing is should I let the dealer take it apart or should I be bold and daring and try and tackle this myself. Hey I did install a new clutch with just some directions to follow. I have the manual so I can take it apart and put it back together. I think I'll at least take a look. If its going to be really spendy for new parts I'll just get a used one.
