Check your oil cooler. If the filter was put on too tightly, it may have crushed some of the sandwiches in the water jacket, allowing the oil and coolant to mix. This has been the cause of a few mis-replaced head gaskets in the past.

Only two X's in my name, thanks. :D

I'll do you a few better. The VFAQ has had an article in it for years detailing what the problem with this oil cooler is.

Randy Nuckels

It's located where you screw your oil filter on. You'll see a shiny can with some ribs on it that the filter screws onto. Coming off this can are two hard coolant lines.

he wouldn't have coolant comming out of the exhuast if it was the oil cooler. What kind of head gasket was on there? Also if you had something cracked you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at it. Some times it takes getting it checked out by a machine shop to finds cracks.

Good call. I didn't see the part about coolant coming out of the exhaust. In that case, the head gasket is the most likely cause. I don't know of any other place where coolant and oil come into close enough contact to mix, other than the oil cooler and the turbo. It's unlikely that the turbo is damaged enough to allow that to happen, though.

thank you. I just had to add the tripple X. But i always just hand tightend my oil filter on there and it always comes off by hand. And im not sure what head gasket is on there. (im guessing mits) because i just re-installed this motor about 2 months ago. and it came with the car when i bought it :dsm: (my 6 bolt had metal shavings in oil pan so i put the 7 back in):notgood:

well i brought it to a machine shop and there was no cracks or anything wrong with the head. and i put in a hks metal head gasket and copperd sprayed it. I am finishing all the wiring tomorrow morning and hopefully the problem is gone.:thumb::dsm:

What was the result? I replaced my head gasket and it ran fine for 2 days but blew water in the oil after going in boost.

my head wasnt warped neither was my head gasket but i still took that one off and replaced it with the hks triple layer one and re-torqued the arp head studs. went two weeks befor white smoke out of the exhaust. (sick of headgaskets) i just re-torqued the head studs and everything is fine:dsm:
