So i have a 97 gst auto and i want to be able to be around 350 hp i know what i need to get the hp but i don't think that the transmission can handle it. I seem to already have problems with it. First i thought it was the cv axle because i heard squeaking when turning and going over bumps and things but now that i have replaced them it is still there. sometimes the transmission shifts very rough like when i am at high rpms and then i let off of the gas and it stays at high rpms for a second then pops into i higher gear which kinda jolts the whole car also does squeak when going up steep hills, and when shifting at high rpms you can a little chirp almost like the tires are breaking loose but i know its not the tires. what could it be? and for my build what should i do for the tranny to be able to hold the power. thanks

when was the last the filter/fluid was changed? End clutches??

You can use your tranny for 350, just get the shift kit and new end clutches as long as every thing else is ok, Rebuild kits can be had, but if you dont know what your doing shop going to run you a few bucks (1k or more). The upgrade path here at tuners has some great info.

just changed the fluid and filter but don't know about the end clutches don't know how to install those either is it fairly straight forward? have not done mutch with a auto tranny before. Also do you know of any reputable places that sell a good shift kit and end clutches?

I havent done any thing to the trans my self, i've had others do it, and a shop. there is a guide for doing the end clutches and the valve body upgrade.

you can get the parts you need from IPT TRANS they have filters, redone valve bodys (with the kits already in them) and end clutch packs to rebuild kits, you name it they have it.

for a guide on the shift kit install, check out Vavle Body Shift Kit

and for end clutches End clutches

thats about it for that stuff.

The end clutches and shift kit are very simple to install, just take your time. A high stall torque converter would be a good idea if you are planning on racing. The only issue there is that you will have to drop the transmission to do the swap. Don't race in OD either, especially if you haven't upgraded your end clutches.

What type of transmission fluid did you use? If you used just some fluid off the shelf go down to the parts store and pick up some Lubeguard Black and dump it into your transmission, this will modify the fluid for more friction which is what your car was designed for.

so has anyone else heard of a transmission sqeaking like i have described or do you think it is something else. It really sounds like an exhaust hanger rubbing underneath but i have checked that, and thats not it but its pretty loud
