Hey guys been creeping on the site for a while just got my tsi awd on the road. Now when I bought the car the tcase was leaking. Had my local Chrysler dealer look at it they couldn't do anything cause they where never a eagle dealer also so he said i had to go somewhere else they didn't charge me at all to look at the car I mentioned the recall. Now they topped off the fluid and said it would probably be fine cause not much leaked out. The problem is there is something rattling underneath the car it almost sounds like its in the arm rest. The sound is like a piece of mettle just rattling now it rattles over bumps and when I accelerate while turning. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Hey the same thing is happening to my car. The t-case is leaking again and they said it was because the bearing was gone and it was causing the seal to get worn out and leak. They topped it off with fluid till i can get to a transmission shop to get the bearing replaced or whatever else has to be done. I have the rattle too but i don't know what that is.

+1 on the exhaust.
Check those little shields, mine was ratting on the muffler and I just bent part of it so it wasn't rubbing any more.
Put a glove on and just bang it from the side. Sometimes it won't start until it's hot, so run around the block real quick.
It could also be the cat breaking up inside and the pellets bouncing around.

Hey guys got a cat back and took off the heat shield under the cat and the rattle is still there. It only happens when accelerating in a turn not hard acceleration but faster then normal. It sounds like a clanking nose metal on metal and when I hit bumps it makes a similar noise. I don't have a clue.

couple of suggestions. If oil was leaking from the transfer case, did you check the yoke u-joint. This was a recall item. If you drop the transfer case and replace u joints - do them all. I don't have the number handy but search here, someone listed an autozone part number for u-joints that work and they were only $10.

"It sounds like a clanking nose metal on metal and when I hit bumps it makes a similar noise." Check your sway bar links, when they go they are sometimes hard to find.

Hey guys had a mechanic check out the suspension the curved control arms are bad along with the outer sway bar links. When I get this fixed I post an update waiting on parts.

Well still have the rattle and the car pulls to the right a bit my mechanic said he would have to tear down the suspension to see what it is. I will post the alignment results later.

The Right caster is negative by 1 degree.

Yup transfer case is bad too getting one for free from Satan too bad it took them 3 months to have it shipped to them haha.

The only time I've had metal rattling under my car was the heat shield above the exhaust. There are formed metal shields which bolt to the car on the underside and the nut holding one in place was loose. Tightening it up of course fixed it.

I figured out the problem drive shaft carrier bearings the bushings are worn out and causing excessive movement in the drive shaft. The alignment is fine brought it to Satan, watch out for other garages who try and ripp ya.

I would also check the carrier bearing for that too. Not sure what raining would have to do with anything unless you are hearing the exhaust expanding and contracting from temperature change.

Go to Chrysler or Mitsubishi and tell them about the recall, its a safety issue so find out who enforce these laws and have them on the phone when you go to the dealer.

It sounds like the exhaust shiel to me as well. When i had my 96 gst i had removed the cat and res. and i had a rattle ever since. Took off the shield and it was all back to normal. Check it out for yourself. Might be a little pain in the butt to remove that shield.
