Problems

So I rebuilt my entire head and am so proud of myself.
But when I started the car I noticed problems.
PROBLEM 1:
Engine sounds like crap. It is really loud in the engine bay and quiet out the exhaust and it sounds like a deep bogging aaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmm. (timing????) (how would I know if my timing is off, Im pretty sure I did it right... I tried atleast 20 times)
Problem 2:
My Exhaust manifold appears to be smoking. But it doesnt seem to be smoking out of the manifold, it appears to be smoking, like the outside? could this be because of the jb weld on it? or could it be it is just smoking off the layer of oil and cleaner and shmuck?

Problem 3: Check Engine Light
Could someone point me to a decent location that tells me how to diagnose my CEL?

Exhaust leak somewhere maybe. Do you have the plug wires on right. Cam timing or CAS timing?

Why is there jbweld on it

A hairline crack in my manifold. This stuff is supposed to last up to 600* f.

Plug wires: I will check them.

If my Balance shaft was set incorrectly do you think it would make a loud noise????

Cam timing or CAS timing?

My CAS is loose and I adjusted it by hand to see where it sounds best.

What would it wound like if my cam timing were off?

You'll cross that temp...

You might have oil on it from greasy hands. Give it a little bit to burn off. Make sure there isn't something touching it out of sight.

Yeah you'll clear 600*. If the cam timing was off then the engine would be running ruff.

The Ballance shafts just keeps the vibrations down.

For the noise check all your exhaust bolts

Ok I checked my exhaust bolts, they were good. Ok so I have A rough idle, it Idles at 2000 at start and then after 2 minutes it idled at 1100. My CEL is on.
man this car is teaching me to become a mechanic!

RESOLVED:
Check and double check your timing. I double checked my timing and I am one tooth off . AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Yo the timing on my tsi was done before i got it but... i had the MAS unpluged i was workn on it forgot to plug it back in went for a ride the car was fast as hell and then bogged so i checked it out.. pluged it back in and now it runs the same again.. after 4500RPMs it just doesnt want to GO it will but u can feel the LAG terrible is this a timing problem or is my MAS just bad.......? HELPP thanks yo
