I have a major problem. Last night i was driving home from work, about mid throttle i let go off the gas and the car makes a whinning noise and shuts off. I try to start it and their is a loud ticking noise coming from the head area. I'm thinking i slipped a timing belt because it was very loose before this happend and i was about to change it this weekend ha ha my luck. I took the head off today and there are minor marks of the valves hitting the pistons. Pistons have no craks or anything. Im going to put the head back on with a new belt and head gasket and set the timing . Can someone give me some helpful info.

The car is a 97 GST Auto with 88k

i wouldnt put the head back on after the valves hit the pistons, thats a leak for sure. unless youve already had it through a shop and tested. the easier way you could have gone would be to check all timing marks, and if in spec run a compression test, and go from there.

very good, its always best to double check. now you know what it isnt if the problem still persists also. just make sure timing is dead on, on re-installation, triple check if you have to. one wrong move and valves could be bent again. good luck man
