Yesterday my car started knocking from around the top of the timing belt area. I dunno if i would call it knock though sounds more like a clicking sound or taping sound. It happens only between 2000 and 4000 rpm and it gets faster with the rpm and it only does it when the car is warmed up. I'm clueless i was hoping for some ideas before i start tearing it apart thanks for your time. :dsm:

A mechanics stethascope will help to find where the sound is coming from. It may be a worn out lifter. If your oil is old and getting thin it will make the problem worse. Changing the oil should help if the lifter is the problem.

lifters. mine do the same. they usually go bad after a while. you burn your exhaust lifters out faster if you put a exhaust on your car. i'm not sure how to fix them but i know alot of people have your same problem

This is quite a problem with DSM. It is the lifter tick that pretty much everyone has or has had. I read in a post that people have used lucas oil stabilizer to cure the problem however I have not done this my self so I can not vouch for it. Check this thread out, there is a ton of great info in it: http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6874&highlight=lifter+tick

It could also be a couple of other things:
Check your crankshaft pulley (dampener).
Check your water pump.

A mechanic's stethoscope can come in handy when checking the water pump. However, the best way to test if that sound is coming from the water pump is to take off the belts and try to move that pulley around. It shouldn't have any play in it. If it has play, you must replace the water pump.

Sounds like lifter ticking to me, once your cars warmed up your oil is heated up and isnt as thick as when it was cold so the lifters would have more of a chance of ticking.
