valve tap??? help please

Ive been hearing this tap for a few months now but cant decipher what it is. It sounds like its coming from the head but im not 100% sure. The sound comes and goes...its never there all the time. I could be at a red light, and I could just hear "tap-tap" for just a second and it goes away...sometimes I have to rev it to make it go away. Sometimes it stays on for a minute or so...sometimes it wont do it for weeks, then one day do it again. Im wondering what it could be..maybe something is loose and hitting something? Maybe a bad Harmonic Balancer? Lifters? Help please

There's no performance loss or anything it feels just as strong as it always has.

more than likely the typicall lifter tick. Try putting in some lucas with your next oil change and see if that helps if it does its ###### the lifters

I would say the lifters every eclipse Ive ever owned wether it was the 1g 1.8 or the 2.0 4g63 theyve all had the lifter ticking come and go

would you be able to hear lifter tick from outside of the car with the hood closed? ya you can hear them ticking in every car, but thats with the hood open and you listening to the motor up close. you can hear the clicking/ tapping from outside my car with the hood closed very well.

trust me my 1g used to tick so bad people would say thats gonna blow up but it never did. My 97 gst will do it when I first start it and go away when I gas it and Ive only got 6000 miles on my head and valve train. There are lifters out there that supposedly dont tick I think I seen them on ebay. And yes youll hear it with the hood shut.
