Recently I swapped my cyclone manifold which wasn't working properly with a USDM one (also swapped coilpack/PTU since they were bolted to it) and at the same time swapped crank pulleys (harmonic balancer not sprocket). Then I went for a drive and the car would build boost but have no increase in power. So I figured I had a big boost leak, and I did, but after fixing the leak the problem still persists. The car ran great before swapping the manifold. After searching I find that it may be phantom knock, but like I said the car ran great before. The only thing I can think of is maybe theres a chance I jumped a tooth on the timing belt when I installed the crank pulley, but can't really see how that could have happened. Im about to go swap the coilpack and PTU back to see if it helps, as well as check timing. Unfortunately I don't have a logger and I am looking for someone in the Austin, Texas area that may be willing to let me use theirs for a few minutes to help me diagnose my problem. Any help would be appreciated. -Thanks

If it was running great before the install then I would go back and double check that all hoses, sensors and electrical harnesses were installed properly.

Also did you redo the boost leak test after you fixed the big leak that you found. Often fixing one leak will allow another weak spot in the intake to now reveal itself. I would do another leak test using the soapy water method.

How much vacuum do you have at idle?

Yes, I did another boost leak test and didn't find anymore leaks. I just swapped the coilpack and PTU back and it made no difference. The vac sits at about 20 at idle.

Timing is at 5 degrees BTDC. There are no boost leaks. Plugs/wires are new. All connectors vacuum hoses etc. are hooked up. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. Car is a little faster under boost but if I hit the throttle anymore than about 30% the boost jumps up and the car doesn't go any faster. It is almost the same kinda feeling as a slipping clutch where the engine speeds up but the car goes the same speed. The clutch is new so its not that though. If anyone can please help me or if there is anyone in the Austin area that could let me use their logger I would very much appreciate it. -Thanks

Alright, problem solved and I dont feel like taking a sledgehammer to my car anymore. I checked the knock sensor and it was oozing the brown goo. I got a replacement at Autozone made by Wells (probably woulda went OEM but theres only 1 Mitsu dealer in town and its about 45 minutes away and its Sunday so it's closed). Car runs great now. :thumb:
