Ok, after some searching im fairly certain my problem is my alternator. However, I'm no expert so I could be reading things wrong.
The Car: 1992 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo, 5spd, built 1991 october, stock, minor freebie mods as per profile.
The Deal: My car has sat for over a month, as I've been away. I should have left keys with a friend to start it...anyway, I tried to start it yesterday and I got nothing...at all. No clicking, no door alarm, no lights, no response whatsoever. I figured my battery(relatively new one) is dead. The weather here has been cold and I figured it lost its charge.
The Attempt: I pulled my other car up to jump the battery, and let the battery charge for a bit before trying to start. 15mins, still nothing. So i have my g/f rev the jumping car while I try to start the Laser. After holding the key in the ignition position, the Laser springs to life somewhat reluctantly. I then let the car run for about 30mins to charge the battery.
The Bad: After 30mins I took the car around the block to show that it i had not forgotten it. Well, the Laser had other things on its mind, about halfway around the block the back left brake line went and my brake peddle now goes to the floor with a vacuum/swooshing sound everytime i press the brake peddle. When I managed to get the car back into the driveway and idleing, I noticed that everytime i pressed the brakepeddle the RPM's would die and almost stall, along with the power seeming like it wanted to do the same.
Aftermath: I let the car sit for about 15 minutes and then tried to start it again, nothing as like in the beginning. I plan to have the battery tested and if I can get time and the weather is good pull the alternator as well. Am I looking down the right path here? Would pressing the brake make the car die out due to a bad alternator or otherwise?
Any advice at all would be helpful, or even a yep you are on the right track, or even a "Silly newb, sell your car and go away"
