I have an European Eclipse 2g, '96...

When i put rear gear no white light appear in back of my car!

Some times there is a little time with light opened but for little time...

I'm sure that there is a problem with contact of rear gear and light (a connection or something else)

Someone can tell me where is the connection between rear gear and rear white light?

Tnx a lot for the answers!

there is a switch in the transmission that turns on when you put the car into reverse. if the switch is broken or works not all the time, then the light in the back of the car will work sometimes or not at all. also, if wires are cut or damaged.

refer to your owners manual or at least let us know if the vehicle is an automatic or a stick shift and i'm sure someone could let you know where to find the switch on your transmission. then you can take it out and have it replaced or checked.

If it is working intermittently then it probably is the back up light switch. I'm not sure about the N/T cars but on mine it is on top of the transmission underneath the area of the fusebox (passenger side of transmission). There will be a 2 wire electrical connection. Remove the snap on harness plug. You can then unscrew it from the tranny (I think it may take a 22mm wrench but I'm not positive). There is supposed to be a steel ball in there, don't lose it. It should stay in the spot where the switch screws into. Hope this helps.
Ciao!

Probably is the back up light switch.

Because when i move really slowly from N to Rear gear, or when it's in Rear gear and move the shift in many direction, the backup light is opened!

I'll try today to find this switch, even if i don't understand really well where is it located  I can see this switch from inside of car (passenger side) or outside, under the car?

However really tnx for the help! :rocks:

Tnx guy!

If you have the 5-speed manual then the switch is buried under a bunch of stuff, on TOP of the transmission on the drivers side. You'll have to remove the battery, battery tray, battery harness and most likely the intake pipe going to the throttle body. It has a electrical connector on the top of it (which you will have to remove) and then using 19mm or 21 mm (can't remember which), take out the sensor. Now you have two options. You can try cleaning the sensor and using your finger push the ball in and out a few times. This worked for me and the sensor has been working fine ever since. Or you can go buy a new one. If you have an automatic then I can't help you :p . Good luck:thumb: , PM me if you need more help. Tom.

Well, now it sounds like you have an automatic transmission - yes? Assuming that is what you have, now we can help you. First however, remove the backup light bulbs and make sure they work and have a good connection (no corrosion, loose connector, etc). Auto's use a transaxle range sensor (or transaxle range switch) to turn on the backup lights (it also has a built in oil temp sensor). It is located under the air box, drivers side, front of the engine bay. It has a 10 pin connector. When the shifter is in reverse, the sensor's pin 1 (black/white wire) and pin 6 (red/blue) should have continuity. If not replace the sensor. Good luck.

Tnx Tom! Now i have a clear idea!

However i have a 5-speed manual eclipse :thumb: (i've tried to say that: move from No gear, center of shift, into Rear gear, my english isn's so perfect, i'm explaning like a cow WTF )

Tomorrow i'll try to do something! LOL

Tnx guy :rocks:
