i dont have an aftermarket oil gauge but a few weeks ago i blew my turbo, burning oil everywhere, drove it home, everything seemed to be fine, as i was pulling into my garage the oil light came on and i didnt think it would be an issue since i was home.

Since then ive gotten a brand new turbo, everything installed, started to drive the car around and i could notice something, everytime i come to a complete stop where my idle drops down to the 750-850 rpms(cams) my oil light starts to flicker, itll stay on constantly at times too. It will turn off as soon as i give it gas and the low oil light never comes on when im driving around.

I have enough oil everytime i checked so i just thought the switch wasnt on good, got the car tuned, its pulling harder than ever but today when i turned the car on to pull it inside to check for boost leaks i can hear an odd sound that goes away when i give it gas. It sounds like its coming directly from my turbo, its a turbonetics 57 trim oil cooled. Could it be possible that when i turn my car on to warm up or everytime im at a traffic light and my low oil light comes on that my turbo is being starved and now it eventually made one of my bearing go to crap?

Im alittle worried because after checking and re doing all my wire connections the oil light keeps coming on, is my oil pump bad? I thought they lasted as long as the car could go?

Im just alittle worried that i fried my new turbo because of a weak oil pump not giving it enough oil, someone please tell me im over reacting and give me a good explanation to why the oil light flickers at idle only.

I have no explanation for the flickering light but, my mechanic friend says that oil pumps are extremely durable components and are designed to last... considering the reliable nature of the 4g63, I would not consider it a dead oil pump.

Read this it may help you feel better. http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/ I would also double check that there are no blockages in the tubo lines. Out of curiosity, did you clean out the innercooler, or at least check it for oil and debris after the blown turbo incident. Just curious. DAN

i had most of the lower intercooler piping off and it had no signs of any oil being in there/no debris. It was leaking and burning oil on the hot side so the exhaust was what got all the oil and smoke.

Im just wondering what a blown/starved turbo bearing would sound like if it were to happen. And why my oil light wants to flicker at idle now and not before.

another thing is i have an oil gauge sitting in my basement, never cared to hook it up i dont like having a bunch of gauges cluttering up my interior. But i run my oil line off the head to a reading at the oil housing would be inaccurate. thats what i think so i dont have a clue what im reading at the head.

It is not inaccurate enough to worry about. I have had mine tapped into the filter housing for 3 years with no probs. Do you have a 90 style housing? I did not see it in profile?
Have you looked at the timing cover in the area of the oil pump? There is a little nipple potruding near the bottom right corner check it for wear. It should not have any holes or dents. I had the gear come off on me and I lost all oil pressure. The bolt had backed out due to over rev..rookie mistake. Anyway its just another idea to eliminate possibilities

well i know the stock oil gauge isnt accurate, im not worried about that but my oil light flickers/stays on constant when im at a complete stop/idle. It turns off whenever i give it gas and it never comes on while driving, im wondering that the time it sits there and the light is on indicating that im low on oil its starving my turbo?

I have a 92 eclipse but the engine is from my 90 laser so it has the external oil cooler housing on it, ill check for wear
