Coil pack Problem, checks out fine though

So i've been having some trouble with getting my car up and running recently. I tested the coil pack and the resistance are within spec. But i noticed one cylinder was not firing because the exhaust runner was cold while the other three were hot. I took out the spark plugs and when i turn the car there is no spark. The coil pack should still be good, i took it off of the intake manifold to test it again, maybe it's the connector? Also will the coil pack not work if it isn't attached to the intake manifold i.e. does it have to be grounded in order to work properly. Thanks

Stupid question......what about the wires?

I've never left the coil packs loose, so I couldn't tell you.

yes i seem to think that if the coil pack is fine, then it must be something in the wires and connector. They all look fine, but that could only be the problem if the coil pack is fine. I'm going to reattach it to the intake manifold and then test it one more time to make sure it didn't go bad in between, and then i guess it's just the wiring somehow.

oh and by wires i meant the ones on the connector to and from the coil pack. The spark plug wires are good, i switch them around and they all fire off one coil pack but no the other.

I was going to say, have you checked the actual plugs for the coil pack? Also, have you checked your resistor? ECU? spark plug gap (or cold range)?

plugs are gapped correctly and are BPR7ES. i need to check the plugs for the coil pack next, then the resistor and i suppose ecu. I'm going to go look up right now how to check those three, but does anyone else have expertise on how to test the resistor, ecu for this problem?
