Driving without power steering question

I had a pump go bad on me and I was wondering what the effects would be if I ran without fluid for a while. Would it call for a whole new power steering rack and system? Any dangers involved?

I'm torn between repairing the system or switching to a manual steering rack. I've driven another car around without powersteering for awhile and I don't mind it.

cut your power steering belt off and you should be fine Don't run it with the belt on and no fluid, that will mess up something.

ive been running without my power steering belt on for about a month.. so far nothing bad has happened, ive just been too busy to put it on.
