I have to get a new Head Gasket and i was wondering which one I should get? I will be running a 16g at about 20-25 psi and i don't want to have to do it all over again. Any help would be greatly appreicated. thanks

Damb, you are running a lot of boost on a 16er, I can tell you this , of course a 4 layer metal head gasket is almost bulletproof(even though I blew one) , but you have to have the head and block surface machined to a near mirror finish.
After I blew mine, I did not want to pull my motor so I just bought a stock OEM mistubishi composite and cranked it down to 80lbs. I run about 23lbs on a 20g with no problems.

I think you can get away with a new OEM as long as you use ARP head studs.

Good luck

I would reccomend a set of ARP head studs torqued to 86ft/lbs with a new Mitsubishi multi layer metal head gasket (4-layer).

You will have no problems again, if it is installed properly.

Good luck,

Actually on a 7 bolt motor ARP recommends 90 lb/ft when using their lube, higher if using motor oil as a lubricant. 6 bolt motors are higher still.

As stated....a MLS gasket will almost always require having the block and head surfaced, while the OEM composite usually does not.

IMO............composite gasket with ARPs.

When re-torquing the head.................follow the install pattern while tightening, and torque in steps (ie: 25%, 50%, then 100%)

FORMONTOYA - Ok...sorry. It has been a while since I torqued mine that low -- my setup is over 100 ft/lbs.

I agree with your statement of resurfacing the block and head -- especially if he has had any type of overheating issue. It is good measure to start with a decked surface.

I was only reccomending. If he has future power goals that are above 25psi on a larger setup, it is just a better decision to start with the MLS than to go with the composite.

I'll agree that the advantages of the MLS will come into play at higher HP/boost levels and is not a bad thing to start with. I was just letting the OP know that more is usually required.

Now is the time for the OP to finalize his goals before deciding on the head gasket. However, the composite and ARPs should not have a problem meeting his goals at the moment (I would use the combo up to around 400WHP without any worries). Now when the larger turbo comes in play...........................

there is 1 thing i have notice on composite gaskets, that of the 3 gaskets i bought, victor, felpro, mitsubishi, there is absolutly no difference accept the stamp from which operator made that particular one, actually looked like they all came from the same factory and then stuck in a different pakage.

studs i highly recomend for all application, i even have them on my toyota p/u, they have way better clamping force.

depends i guess i work at napa so i seen just a little difference in price dealer the highest of course 40.60 for composite, napas my cost 24.10, i think the felpro was only about 8-10 dollars higher, and beck arnley was about the same as felpro.

i have been told to use copper coat on these gaskets and i did on mine for the heat transfer, i have never used on any other application though.

thanks for everyones help but i had bigger problems. My harmonic balancer blew up and caught my timing belt and i jumped 7 teeth. My valves were gone and they embeded in my pistons pics coming soon it's sweet!!!!!!!!!! I am doing a 6 bolt swap with the help of TPG Tuning they are great highly reccomend them for info pm me. thanks again

Sorry to hear that, I have seen many crank pulleys separate in the past, and it never is pretty.

I look forward to hearing of the new setup in the future.
