Ok i am pretty good at fixing my car but right now i am stuck!!! i changed out the starter thinking it was that!! i am going to explain what happen before my car stop starting.

1990 Eagle Talon Tsi

1. I was at a stop sign talking on the phone and some damn truck was blocking my view so i try to go foward a bit so i can see, so what happens the car stalls on my so i am like damn it!! i go to start the car and bam it dont want to start? it makes a sound from the starter so i think it went bad or someting. at the time i just finishing messing with my subs speakers they keep going out the guy that wired the stereo before did not do a good job. So i think it had to do something with that but stereo speaker wire would not cause that much damage correct???
2. So i replace the starter with a starter i got with the car! ( i got alot of extra parts when i bought the car) its not new but it looks better then this one! so i take everything apart! and check for damage teeth but everything is normal!! so i put on the extra starter! and i pray!! and at first it did not do anythign when i turned the key! so i give it second and then start it up again ang again and then bam! it starts doing the same thing at the one i just took off, so to make sure the old starter is bad i go to kragen and they check out the starter and it passes its working fine! so know i thin kits the relay but the manager at kragen said it could not be the starter relay bec i would get no turn at alL!! and iam like damn i think yhour right! so what could be the problem!
3. Could it be? i blew my ECU??
4. Starter Relay?
5. Fuses i checked them all! and their fine.
6. its not the power transistor the car would start atleast right??
Well i am lost with what it could be if you could please help me if you need more info feel free to pm and i will get back to you! i really need my car for the new year! well thanks any help would be great i am about to research some more see if i find anyione that is having the same probklems as me well thanks gain and happy new year!

Does the car crank at all or do you just hear a click, click, click everytime you turn the key?? The starter relay is located underneath the stereo but i dont remember exactly which one is the starter relay. If you have a multimeter, i would run use it and put the + end of the multimeter to the signal wire that leads to the starter and ground the - multimeter cable out. Have a friend try and crank the car and see how many Volts you are reading on the multimeter. It should be around 12v. If you dont get a reading, than the relay went bad.

This may sound like a dumb thing to try but i have had it happen to me before. Did you check the + cable going from the battery to the starter? I have had mine come loose before and this would prevent the starter from getting enough power to crank over.

Hey i checked it with a volt meter and before i start the car its at 12.29 volts or so... then when i crank over it drops to 10.2 or something like that not a major drop but its a drop of about 2 to 3 volts max! the car does crank over! at first when i put in the 2nd starter it was clicking! click click then i waited a second and then it started doing the same thing as before with the old starter! so i am thinking its the relay... wait i did not do it to the starter? i did it off the battary?? tommorow i will try puting the + to the + on the starter and just ground it dont matter right as long as its ground?? the car wants to start but it just cant!! it just makes a sound from the starter no clicking from stereo area or anything i dont think its my ecu? do you?? i am going to try to find the starter relay tommorow and see what happens! well thanks for your help hopefully we can fix this problems but thanks for the help any more questions? i am going to try what you said tommorow thanks and happy new year!

So you put the + lead on the multimeter to the signal cable on the starter??? its the small black wire that runs to the starter. You then grounded out the - lead on the multimeter?? When you are not cranking the car, you should not have any Volts showing but when you are cranking the car, and have the multimeter hooked up like i stated, you should then get 12 volts.
