Faulty Coolant Temp Reading

I searched and didnt find what I was looking for. My problem is, when I start the car the temp needle immediately pegs and I cant figure out why its doing it. I know the car isn't really hot but what would cause the needle to malfunction like that? Thanks for the help as awlays!

the sensor could just simply be shot

You have a short either in your sensor or sensor wiring. Disconnect sensor and turn key on to see which.

A wire fell off mine making it peg Hott, but once i put it back on and crempted it, it never happened again.

Well I did disconnect each sensor individually to see if it was a sensor but it still did the same thing. I checked all the wires to make sure they weren't grounding on anything but didnt see anything unusual. My thoughts are that somthing is feeding the wire to make it peg. I have some old sensors im going to test with tomorrow to see if it does anything different. Whatever it is its not allowing my fan kick in. Thanks for the suggestions so far, its kind of a wierd problem.

The switch for the temp gauge is the smaller single wire plug on the lower thermostat housing, pointing forward and down slightly. Check the wire for cracks where it bends around to plug on.
