Alright for the past couple weeks ive been having trouble trying to figure out what is causing my car to smoke. At first i thought it was just the rings but after talking to some people and doing a compression test i figured it wasnt. 140 140 138 140. The car really only smokes in the morning after it has sat, it doesnt seem to smokes when your going but when you stop or let of the gas and come to a stop is when it smokes. The turbo is getting some shaft play, could it be the turbo even tho it doesnt smoke while boosting?

Could be just the valve seals. im having problems with my car smoking also, found out i have a bad piston ring. even though our situations are a bit different describe what color your smoke is to give us a better idea of what it might be. also how much does it smoke? did you do a wet/dry compression? warm? cold?

btw, you'll hear it once in a while with dsmers especially.... you know a dsm is running right when it smokes. haha

It started out smoking in the morning after it would sit. When i would start to drive it would smoke but when idleing in neutral it would smoke but after it got warmed up it would stop smoking. But now its starting to always smoke when i stop and start to go. Its a blue smoke and i can smell the oil.

Well, those numbers aren't that impressive and are close to the service limit.

Did you perform a wet test? Put a capfull of oil into the cylinders and retest the compression. If the numbers jump drastically your problem most likely is being caused by your rings.

To check the valve stem seals, take off the exhaust manifold and look at the exhaust runners and the valves themselves. They will be covered in oil if they are bad.

Does your turbo have in-and-out shaftplay?
A little side-to-side shaftplay is acceptable, however, you should have NO in-and-out. The compressor blade should spin freely without coming into contact with the compressor housing.

Its a 1g motor so its still within the service. The turbo does have some in and out shaft play.

Well when my valvestem seals went bad it sounded exactally like what is going on with your car. It smokes only when it sits over night and it was only when I fired the car up in the morning. Once it was fired up it stopped smoking. The valvestem seals weren't too bad, but they were shot.
