Well, I just picked up a '90 Eagle Talon for free. I was told that the head gasket was blown. I took the valve cover off and noticed that all the rockers on one of the cams are just sitting on the head. It looks like they popped out. The studs are still tight and everything. I think that it jumped timing and forced the rockers to come out. Do the timimg marks on the 2 cam gears have to be exactly the same? It looks like one is off by a tooth or so. Is there any other place that I can get more info on this car?

I just had the same problem with my 2g. Check the timing at the bottom of the motor. My timing on the camgears were a tooth off and it had jumped 180 degrees at the bottom. It does sound like you have a blown head thought. Maybe try rebuilding it, or just try timing it and see if it is blown. :D

Look at the vfaq's / 1000 already answered questions, Also I would go ahead and pull the head off and check the valves and top of the pistons, as long as the pistons are fine, and the head is shot, you can find a good used one off the classifieds here or ebay for a couple hundred.

Heres a link to the Vfaq, good suggestion Bobs90turbo.

I thought I would add that these motors are "interference" motors which means the pistons can hit the valves, possibly bending them or putting holes in the pistons, this is why Bob is telling you to look at them.

Yes, the cam gear timing marks should line up with each other at TDC.
