A buddy of mine is having problems with his 1996 Eagle Talon TSi, heres his list...

His oil pressure dropped one day coming home after getting the car, and he said it basically had no power, so he pulled over, and the oil press. gauge was at none, so he shut it off, waited a bit, started it up, and revved it a bit, and the oil pressure rose back to normal..he drove it some more and just said it ran really choppy.. so he brought it home, and noticed oil around the head, so they pulled the head off (thinking the headgasket blew) and everything looked alright, so they are getting it looked at to make sure that things are good there.. he told me the turbo has some shaft play(not sure on how much).. it has 134K miles on it now.. his mods include a 1G BOV, turbo timer, 3" cat back exhaust, and then he said it's lowered.. so yeah... i guess i am just posting to see if anyone else has experienced problems like this, and what they found the problem to be.. thanks!

Well if there was oil around the head, he obvisously had an oil leak. If the turbo has some shaft play, it could have been starved oil... its odd that the first thing you guys did was pull the head.. I mean, there are other things you could have checked first, for instance, a compression check, leak down test, etc...

Pull the turbo while you are at it, if the play is more than minimal... and trust me, minimal isnt used lightly... I have to practically yank on my wheel to get it to move what seems to be a hairs width, and thats when cold.

Well him and i have never actually met, he lives across the state from me, and we met when we were younger on the internet because we were big into quads, so we talk on and off, and he really liked dsm's, so he got one... he just had this problem and wanted some info from me, so i came to here haha.. thanks for the help though.. my thoughts might be may be a camshaft skipping a tooth or something.. the oil pressure might not have anything to do with his problem, could be a faulty connection at the pressure sender or something.. when he figures it out, i'll post back.. thanks again

the connector on the oil pressure sending unit isnt very ..well.. proffesional imho, he should check that.

if he lost al of his oil pressure, then the red warning light (the "its too late now light") would have come on.

indeed. I would worry about oil pressure first. It sounds like oil filter is loose and letting oil get everywhere, which would explain loss in pressure. Probably not the oil filter, but something near there that sees a lot of pressure

excatley, or the oilpressure switch ist broken and oil is shootoing out of the back of it
