Alright I was at the races last night and I would of beat the only two cars that beat me but when I shifted into second and third my gears grind and it takes like 2-4 seconds for me to slam that damn thing in. I slam it into gear anyways because of how hard it is to shift in my car. I have a short throw and my shifter shaft is about 5-7 inches tall and it feels like that could be a reason?? Does anyone think I should cut it about 3inches to make it shorter?? Or do I need a new clutch for that or is it something else..??? I would probably gain another 2 seconds on my 1/4 time if I can get cleaner shifts, it just doesn't feel right its so hard to ge that into gear. Please help...

Well first off, I cut part of the shifter shaft on my 97 GST (May she rest in peace) and it helps the shifter throw a lot...another thing that you might be doing wrong is not pressing the clutch pedal all the way down, which is something you probably don't pay attention during a race since your adrenaline is pumping. You also might be trying to power shift, which can also cause the grinding. I wouldn't do that if I were you since it takes a beating :beatentodeath: on your clutch and tranny. Are you still running with the stock clutch?

To tell you the truth I really don't no but it definately feels like a stock cause one of my buddys has a ACT 2600 in his GSX and that feels a lot more different then mine so I think its a stock. And I do push the clutch in all the way, I basically hit it to the floor.

im at 93,000 but its a whole new like gear box down there I think unless the person who owned the car before me just changed it to a short throw. But it looks like the whole thing... I'm not to sure. But I do no my synchros are going in my reverse because it grinds probably about 50% of the time when I put it in reverse, it never does it though when im rolling back a little bit.

Well short shifter kits do not deal with what is inside the tranny so I am going to stand by it being the synchros. The only way to know is to take it apart. And unless you have done tranny work before, I would suggest having someone that knows what they are doing replace the synchros.
