Alright when I start my car when I haven't driven it in a couple of hours or longer my oil pressure guage reads 45-60 psi and then when I start to drive it shoots up to 100+ real quick. It does this until the car is warmed up, is this normal or do I need to adjust something???

Typically I see 75 psi on cold start and once it's fully warm, it'll idle at 25 psi. I can still peg it to 100 psi by 4000 RPM though. As long as the pressure decreases as the oil warms, everything's normal.

Hope that helps,

Andy

What would you say should be the max oil pressure at WOT and 8,500 RPM? I think I remember reading somewhere that a good rule of thumb was 10psi for each 1,000 RPM. If this is correct could I safely go to 100-110psi or would I want to stay at 85-90psi MAX?

That's really a hard question. 85-90 is more than healthy for the motor. Higher pressure are more susceptible to possible leakage from the front cover/seals and require a very tight setup. I run fairly thick oil (15W-50) and have no balance shafts and I can peg the 100 psi gauge pretty easily at WOT. Dan Kasun (project_tsi) has a mechanical with copper tubing and I've seen him him run in the 110's or 120's at WOT.

The shop that assembled my stroker knew the pressures were going to be high and they had no issues with it. I'm sure it's better with fresh parts and seals and I might be concerned about running high oil pressure in an older motor since the seals aren't as durable.

This is kind of ambiguous, but I'd say it depends. Maybe someone with more engine building experience can jump in and lend a hand.

OK, thanks for the reply. Maybe this question will be easier. Does anybody know what a stock car's oil pressure is at WOT at redline? Or maybe I should just play it safe and keep enlarging my oil bypass valve hole until I get the pressure down to between 90-100psi and then I know I'm good. Does this sound good?

You can't really port it too big (obviously with common sense) because the passage will not be exposed until the stock spring is overcome, as soon as the pressure falls below the spring rating, the passage will close back up. This is like boost creep or fpr overrun, port the passage big enough will allow the pressure relief vavle to do what its suppose to.
