Well, my car starts to smoke after 2-3mins of idle from the exhaust. Sometimes it puffs smoke when leaving from a stop. Also I have the let the car idle and the amount of smoke changes, it will increase then lessen and repeat.

DOES NOT smoke under normal conditions, under boost, or any other times other than listed. DOES NOT overheat

Checked the following:
-compression 150 across the board (jdm 6bolt)
-turbo has very, very, VERY minimal shaft play side to side. NONE in/out
-no oil in turbo compressor outlet or licp inlet, nor on the hot side.
-no puddles of coolant anywhere
-no oil leaks on feed line (ss line from oil filter housing), havent thoroughly checked the drain line

Havent checked coolant levels, just recently
got this car (2weeks ago) and not sure if it has consumed any in between. :(

Also noticed some oil "wet spots" around the 4th runner, possibly the valve seals?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

White/Grey is usually coolant. Oil usually has a blue tint to it.

You could have a leaking head gasket which it was minor it would not affect your compression test much.

Valve seals will typically cause it to smoke upon startup.

I am leaning toward water/coolant.

Let us know what you find.

I'll be removing the manifold tomorrow, if Im not too lazy, to check on the valves.

Also will be checking if the cooling system is holding pressure.

Im really hoping is not the HG...I know there have been members that had suffered through the white smoke "scare" and it ended up being turbo related or the valve seals.

Since Ive checked the turbo, Im hoping for the seals :(

Well I think you know the prognosis then... Time to pull the head. :(

If it makes you feel any better I replaced an alternator belt tonight which turned into a water leak which turned into dismantling the entire fricken motor to pull the pipe I F-ed up off, which turned into previous owner broke an exhaust stud off in the head and there is a huge leaking crack in the manifold....ROFL, MAN! I love this hobby.

It does actuallly, thanks LOL

While working on the car, I'd ask myself "Was getting back into DSMs a good idea?". Then I remeber the sound and pull of the turbo and respond "yes" :D
And yes, I do have little convos with myself:coy:

I cleaned out the overflow bottle and figured out why it was so dark in color. The bottom of the bottle was uber dirty, I cleaned and so on.

So I took off the manifold and found what shows in the pictures.

Now to try and completely eliminate a hg problem I rented a tool from Autozone. A pressure coolant tester. Now to my current problem, none of the adapters fit?? What to do now?
