Hopefully someone here might be able to give me some advice on a problem I am having.I recently(month&1/2 ago) picked up a 1994 EclipseGS 1.8L (without the turbocharger) and have been driving it without incident since then, ran great, excellent gas milage so I had plans on fixing it up, however, I drove to a town close by thats roughly 50 miles from here and drove all over there and then back home and parked it. I got up the next day and it would not start, not even kinda, it does turn over normally, battery is good alternator is good I checked the fuses under the hood, none bad and it has about a quarter tank of gas in it. The car has run perfect and then nothing.
I pulled a plug to see it I was getting spark and the plugs looked like they hadnt been changed in a very long time so I bought new ones and checked for spark , got spark and the car actually started for a second then died and thats what its doing now. When I turn it over it will try to start and will run for a second if I have the gas pedal part way down but dies. I started thinking fuel problem so I pulled the fuel filter and that seems ok , I turned the key on with the fuel filter off and gas did not come out of the gas line but it does come out when I turn the motor over.
Does anyone know how fast the gas should be coming out of the fuel line? I keep thinking fuel pump but at $180 and alot of work I would like to be a little more sure. I hear a clicking noise in my dash right when the starter engages and another click when I release so I dont know if maybe there is a relay or something under the dash that might be bad or if thats the fuel pump engaging and disengaging, hopefully someone here will be able to tell me.
The best way I can describe how much gas is coming out of the fuel line when I turn it over without a pressure tester is the fuel line is going up and down by the firewall with the exposed end pointing straight up, when I turn it over gas flows out about an inch high, should there be more pressure than that? ANyways I apologize for this being such a long drawn out deal but I wanted to give you guys a clear idea of whats going on, hopefully someone can give me a little advice on it. thanks in advance
