water pump, belts, and pulleys

i was driving to charlotte last week and my car sounded really bad, so i pulled over a belt was completely off a pulley....anyway i take it to a shop in charlotte that my gf's parents go to and say is really good and they tell me the waterpump has sheered off and taken all the belts with it...they also say the pulleys all need replacing as well.

so they quote me $906.50....$250 for parts....$650 for labor!!!

does that sound right or is anyone in the Charlotte area capable of installing all this?

holy CHIIT!!!!! 1k for some pullie's you can get some from the classified's section, also why do the pullie's need replaceing? if anything went bad its probally your crank pully/harmonic balancer seperateing.. that sounds like wayyyy to much..

That sounds a bit too pricy for my taste. MAYBE $200-300 labor AT MOST. Parts prices sound about right for all new stuff. I'll bet the dealer charges less.

Dude if you were only a few more miles down the road. Id get you the pulleys at next to cost, and install the belt and pulley for 50 bucks...So what belts are they saying it took out? (you said all)

Damn wendy, workin cheap for that part money haha. I guess all it would take was an hour tho . Yeah come to wilm, you've got about 5 dsmers that could get it done for cheap here Including me. I'll do it for $49

P.S. I just realized wendys right, you didn't specify which belt . Timing belts/head replacements generally run around that for parts and labor. $500-$1,000 total for shops.

Shit I'll do a timing belt for $100 easy. Takes 2-3 hours and I'd be done from beginning to end.

well it happened again....i just paid $906 to have it fixed ( thanks for the offering to fix it...funny thing is i was at a wedding on bald head island right next to wilmington) and the exact same thing happened again...

I was driving and my E. brake light and battery light come on, then the steering wheel locks up!!! I pull over and the belts are completely off the pulleys!!!!!

could something else be causing this? could the alternator cause the belts to come off?
