OK, stock vehicle with 140k miles on it. The turbo does not want to hit a full 10 psi with the factory vac setup. I pull the wastegate line and it boosts 15 psi MAX in all gears. There is oil in the vac lines and a film in the intake but nothing major. I checked the turbo for shaft play and it seemed in good shape. The one thing I noticed was it did not spin very well when I tried to move it by hand. Other cars I have worked on the turbo was able to spin much easier. To date, the only thing I havent checked is a clogged cat converter. Do you guys think the turbo is blown? or is it just something I have not found yet? I really wanna figure this out before I go spend $600 on another turbo.

check for shaft play, push the wheel back and forth if it moves, its been worn down. But i really dont think its your turbo since you have been able to hit 15 psi.

well like i said the turbo has almost no shaft play both horizontally and vertically

first...replace the vaccuum lines with new ones and second, your turbo needs to be rebuilt or replaced if it is hard to remove. It's most likely:

a. your turbo is out of balance

or

b. you have a bad bearing in the turbo

Im not too sure why you have oil in your vaccum lines...that seems kind of weird.

Well i guess im gonna go ahead and pick up a turbo when I get paid on friday. I have been looking at the evo 3 16Gs from turbochargers.com. Has anyone had any experience with these? I am wanting something with a warranty and they seem to have the best price.

yea, definatly sounds like the turbo is toast.

If it was overheated, not properly cooled down, the oil would bake in the bearings, making it not spin as free.

which would explain the lack of play, and the lack of boost.
