Ok, here we go. Got a stock 91 talon tsi awd. When I first got it, I had the fluids changed, new front r&l axle, all belts done, and valve cover gasget. I got it back, things were good when i parked it, went to start next morning and it was running really rough (loud ticking), tried driving in my drive way and the car was making like no power, then stalled and wouldn't start. My first thought was it jumped time. So i had it towed back, he tells me i blew a head gasget(timing was fine), and said he did a test and found air was leaking from cyl2-3. So I took the opportunity to get 3g lifters, and a 3 angle valve job, and had them put on a 2g manifold while the head was off. So I got the car back from all that yesterday morning, drove it to school, and work, and drove a little after work, no problems. Park it last night, come out this morning to go get my exhaust put on, start it again, SAME PROBLEM AS ABOVE. Car was running really rough, made no power, and by the time i got to the end of my street it stalled and wouldnt start. So I dunno what the problem is, it was running fine last night and all day yesterday, but after sitting over night this magicly happens... Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Check Spark Wire firing orders. Gap between spark plugs. Also charge your battery with 12 volts and 10 amps for about 90 minutes. After try to start the engine and if its idling low put some gas on it to 1500 rpm for 10 minutes. Hopefully it works.

Man, that's screwed up!!!!

Before all the repairs how did it run? Any valvetrain noise?

Is the shop well versed in dsm repairs?

And, stupid question... from a newbie....why the 2g manifold?

There's an awsome no-start vfac by femmedsm. Check it out, it's chock full of things to check, and how to check them...

keep us posted on what you find.

new plugs and wires are on there. I had the car for like 3 days before initially taking it in. It started up in the mornings finen then. When I got it back the first time it did that after sitting over night. Then had it towed back there, they did all the head work, ran great, then next morning did SAME thing. Im thinking maybe a lose connection in ecu or something that has poor connection in the cold? Becuase the car started up and ran fine all day long, it was just after the long over night sit that it ran like crap and would not start again.

I think it has to be some kind of loose connection/sensor, it's too coincedental that the same thing happened twice after sitting over night. I think it was just warm all day, then cooled over night and metal/plastic contracted and a loose connection was lost on something. I mean it was running good and strong when i parked it at night, then the next morning it's like the timing is all ####ed up, dies, and wont start. And i just spent about 3g's at this place and this is the job i get done on my car.... talk about regrets.

Update-

Ended up jumping time, it jumped 5 teeth. Bent valves... Any how, the timing belt was done, tnesioner replaced, but it seems after sitting over night the belt may have loosened, or something happened where the timing jumped. What would cause this problem? possiby bad tensioner?
