Some of you may recall seeing my thread in here a week or 2 ago. My car had fuel cut, loss of power, low fuel light flashing on and off (with fuel in tank), and just overall not seeming right at all.

Well, I couldn't figure it out. So I gave in and dropped it off at the dealership.

Talked to them today. My CAI wore through the ECU harness. Thus allowing the wires to cross and it fried me ECU. So now they have to order me in a new one. Lovely isn't it?

You usually will have a choice with a dealer or a shop to supply your own parts. You could call and cancel the part order. They could charge you storage for any delays in you bringing your own part so this may become a factor. They may charge for any diagnostic work and repairs to date. They cannot guarantee the part to work since it's from an unknown source, they can guarantee they will install it correctly. Now the ugly side, I have known mechanics to not properly diagnose a problem (don't laugh too hard) and I have known mechanics to sabotage a job. All you can do is plead poverty and hope they have done everything correctly and will respect your situation.

If you succede it probably wouldn't hurt to tip the mechanic for his work. It may not cover any lost time or unbilled charges but at least he knows you care.

Cheers,
GTM

Well I was so tired of dealing with it I just told those guys to fix it. I am getting the ECU, the wiring harness fixed, all the install and diagnostics for $880. Ya I know thats steep but like I said, screw it. It was giving me a headache.
