alright, just for the sake of appearance i put a new valve cover on the car. the valve cover that was on there had the pcv valve plugged, and the nipple on the left side open. when i put the new valve cover on there, i plugged the pcv valve, and left the side open just as before. i drove it a total of about maybe 10 miles, noticing shortly into the trip that the car was burning oil out the back. brought it home, pulled off the lower intercooler pipe, and oil spilled out. so i figured, blown turbo. i expected this to happen sooner or later, because i had the stock 14b on an overall larger setup.
being as i thought that was the problem i found a new turbo, put it on, had the car running a little. and took it for a maybe a mile and a half drive. still smoked, so i figured it must not have been the turbo.

i checked the only other thing i had messed with, the valve cover, and i found that the nipple on the left side that i thought was open, was plugged somehow on the inside, so there was no way for the pressure to get out, and im assuming this somehow pushed oil through into the turbo and piping and so on. i switched the valve covers back, took off the intercooler and all the piping, and cleaned it all out.

after putting it back on and letting it run for a little, i took it for a short drive maybe a mile and a half, and it was still smoking, just a little though, and mostly just on boost.

anyone that knows more about this issue than i do, is it possible that i caused damage to something, or ruined the new turbo? or is this just the oil that was in there from last time still burning out?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

*also- forgot to add, after having drivin it the last time, everything changed and cleaned, i checked the lower pipe again and there was just a little bit of oil in there, not even enough to drip out. and i checked the intake side of the turbo for shaft play and there was none, its a mhi big 16g from sbr.

The oil you were burning was because you were pushing oil past the rings into the combustion chamber and oil past the turbo seals. Do a compression test and see how your ring's are I'm sure they are fine but id give it a quick look if i were you. Unclog BOTH the pvc and the breather in the valve cover and run them to a catch can. you may have blown the turbo seals with the extra pressure but do not have shaft play since the bearing is still good.

ill get out there later to do the compression test. in regards to blowing the turbo seals, is there anyway i can test this specifically? or would i just have oil in the lower pipe or what.

* just did the compression test. 161, 155, 152, 160.

i dont mean to bump myself, but im just wondering if its safe to go ahead and drive? is there something i can do to clean out what oil had been taken in before? or will it just burn out? thanks

it is safe to drive the car but in the near future have the intercooler flushed.

after i realized what the problem was, and changed the valve cover back, i took off all the intercooler pipe and the intercooler and cleaned them out with gasoline. the compression is good on all cylinders, and i checked the lower pipe for oil after having fixed everything, and there was a little film in there, but not enough to be dripping out. the car was still smoking though. im really wondering if its possible that there is still oil in the system from before thats still burning out, and if i drive the car, will the smoke eventually go away.

Keep an eye on the oil level and take it for a spin down the highway at no boost see if you can burn all the oil out of the exhaust.Once the exhaust coming out looks clean Cross your finger's and through some boost at it and tell us what happens?
