timming belt broke

Ok as I'm driving down the road today my timming belt snapped on me does that automatically mean that I have bent valves. I have a 1G awd tsi :talon: I also would like to know if there is a stronger belt out there? If there is where and how much does it cost?
 
If you were driving when it broke, chances are you bent the exhaust valves.

They make kevlar belts for the 4g63 but Im not sure wht the life of them are. I havent heard of one breaking yet but I only know of a couple of people running them. They can be found from most dsm vendors.
 
I didn't hear anything when it broke it just went silent on my other dsm when i bent the valves it made this clinck sound. So I don't know
 
I wonder how old the belt is and how many miles are on it? Very seldom does a belt just break for no reason. Do you have a crank or cam seal oil leak? If so, that will need to be repaired also as it weakens the belt due to contamination.

There's a whole list of things you need to replace if the valves are bent.

Tear it down, install a new belt per vfaq and do a compression test. Before you crank it over, hand turn the crankshaft 6 revolutions to see if things fall back right.

If you have compression, then you dodged a bullet. If not, well, this would be a good time for those new stainless valves you probably were drooling over.
