ok, so i keep shredding belts right, and i thought they were not tensioned properly. so i kept tightning them, and tightning them, and finally i realized the WP pulley isnt straight on with the crank pulley, now the CP does not shake, or wobble when the car runs so i kinda elminated the harmonic balancer. but when looking into the engine bay, you can see the WP pulley and the CP dont line up, and the belt kinda curves a little bit to compensate for the mis-alignment. I got under the car, and used a ruler, and put it to the side of the crank pulley, flat on the ouside part of it, and when i looked at the WP pulley, the ruler (flat on the cp) would hit the 2nd groove in on the wp pulley. a guess-timate on the differrence , would be a 1 1/4'' . If you are confused, basicaly, when under the car looking straight up, the wp pulley is "sticking out" about a 1 1/4'' more then the CP and it seems to be curving my belt

so my question is... what do i do to fix this LOL. PLEASE help me someone!!

How did you "kinda" eliminate the harmonic balancer? When I kept shredding belts, it was because my crank pulley seperated at the rubber piece (which would be the harmonic balancer, which is why I'd like to hear how you "kinda" eliminated it). I replaced the crank pulley with a new used one and I have had no problems since.

because i replaced it with a new used one a few weeks ago. and the belt is off centered of the pulleys, and when the belt starts to come off, the groove rides along the outside of the CP, on the outer lip. so the belt is off centered for some reason. the CP looks to be in good shape, and when i bought it, it was strong and had little rust.

what do you mean "turning around" the WP pulley. the bigger part of the pulley is on the outside, and smaller part is on the inside... i dont think u can turn it around

I would go with quasimodo and try to turn your water pump pully around. I recently bought a car off a guy that was doing the same thing. He had put it on backwards. So I turned it around and no more belt chewing. So if you have took it off for some reason latley I be you accidently put it on backwards. They will fit on either way. good luck!

well can someone confirm with me that the bigger part of the pulley is on the outside , and the smaller pulley is on the inside ... is this correct? seems to be from my haynes manual pics.

Yeah, but they overlap the actually pump sprocket.
Oh, and there's no such thing as a new used part ;)

I'm confused.

basicaly, my belt keeps coming off, and the pulleys dont line up. the crank pulley seems to sit furthur back then the other pulleys, the belt kinda has to bend to get to it. the belt keeps riding over the side of the crank pulley, no matter how much i tighten it.

O and by new used part, i meant it was new for the car, but still a used part. i know there is no such thing as a new used part.

The Water Pump Pulley can be mounted either way, it's bi so to speak.
You're gonna have to remove your 1g T-Belt side motor mount, then you'll have access to your WPP.
Leave the belt on the pulley, and remove the 4 screws that are holding it on the WP.
The mounting flange for the WPP is not symmetrical, it has an offset much like an offset for your wheels.

The VFAQ for doing a T-Belt mentions to notice and identify with a mark which way the pulley is mounted so that you wouldn't have an issue like this.

Trust me, if you have a new Harmonic Balancer and your WPP is not lined up and you're only shredding the WP Belt, then it is installed wrong and needs to be flipped over bottom line...

thanks man, il go try that right now. but just incase u were confused on the belt that was coming off it was the crank/alt/wp belt. not the short one, the longer one.

No man, what confuses me is that your profile says 91 GSX, hence why I said remove your 1g motor mount.
Your gallery has pics of a 2gb GST or GSX which ever.
Your sig shows us all a photo of a 2gb Talon.
So, which car are you having problems with?
Either way, get that WPP flipped over, and put on a brand new belt.

Peace

Water pump pulley is two pulleys. The larger pulley should have the flat side facing outward. It's easy to get that one installed incorrectly causing your belt to jump off.

aw man thats crazy, after my last post i went into the garage, and me and my friend were looking at it, and realized that the pulley was backwards, so we flipped it around (without removing the motor mount) and everything is perfect... except now my car has a new warning light, its the low antifreeze light , or w/e it is, looks like a little rad. , but i have full fluid and it flows, car doesnt overheat?

o and the dsm im talking about is my 91 eclipse gsx with a jdm 6bolt.
