I have a 92 GS that isn't getting any spark. I was driving it, when it just died all of a sudden and won't start. I've tried a replacement coil, and tested the power resistor with a D battery. Both seem to be working. What other culprits could there be?

ECU and CAS: How do I check these? The harness to the CAS is getting juice, but I'm not sure how to check the actual unit.

The car is not throwing any codes. It turns over but will not start.

Thanks!
Jason

This is what my 91 did when the ecu was fried due to leaky end caps..

wont even throw codes, i had a code for the cat when it died the code wasnt there thats how i knew there was something else wrong

I also have a ecu for a 91 awd 5speed if needed

The CAS can be checked with an oscilloscope. It will put out a pattern if it's working. I have a Vantage scope from Snap On and that's how I test them. You can test by substituting a known good component. The pcm is a non test item. It has to go to a repair center to be tested and repaired properly. steve can give you the low down on pcm's and repairs and such. Give him a shout for his opinion.

The trouble is, both items are problem causers and it's a 50-50 call there.

Good Luck

When I rebuilt my engine it didnt have any spark so I was thinking ecu or cas. Switched ecu's and cas and still same thing. I hooked up the injector plugs to a noid light and they werent getting fire. The problem ended up being(believe it or not) the ground wire from the coolant sensor plug had broke off. I grounded the wire and viola, started right up. I could'nt believe it was a simple ground wire to the coolant sensor.

sorry for thread jacking' but can someone direct me on how to check the the touble shooting codes on my car w/out an obd scanner..any link to another thread would be great... the search option here isnt too great. :thumb:

im having the same problem like this gentleman here, but i'd figure pulling the codes would make things a hell of alot easier..
thanks in advance.

Where is the coolant temp sensor?

Thanks,
Jason
It is located on your thermostat housing. The one that I was talking about is directly below where the vacuum hoses connect to the thermostat housing.
