I just baught a 97 gs-t a couple months ago... its has 90,000 miles on it and last night i was driving and it began makin a clunk noise everytime i let the car out of a gear... everytime i let stress off the tranny it seemed to make the noise... then it got worse and started doin it when i would be at a consistant speed. could it possibly be a mount? it doesnt seem to effect the way it drives...

Could be a mount, could be an axle. You can check your mounts by opening the hood, starting the engine and in first gear, just bump the clutch out and have someone observe the engine for movement. Slow stretching movement is ok. Sudden rapid and obviously clunking is bad. You have to also do it in reverse.

Jack it up and put it on JACKSTANDS. Look at your axles also. Put the car in gear, have someone hold the other wheel and rotate your wheel back and forth. Look for unusual play in the inboard and the outer cv joint. Compare the two. You may even have to look at someone elses who are good for a point of reference. By the way, boots can be good and still have bad axles.

Good Luck
