2g mas on a 1g

If I put a 2g MAS on my 1g, will I need to use an AFC of some kind?

Yes. The 2g Mas will give lower readings causing your engine to run lean.

To actually fine tune it yes! You would need a device to add fuel for the addition of air. A set of 550s on an unhacked 2g mas is the norm for countering its effects. But the afc isnt all that expensive (got mine for 100 shipped) could slap on some 660s and tune away!

SO, I could get by with 550's and an unhacked MAS, but to do it correctly I need an AFC, or do I need one either way.

^^^yes you could just throw in a 2g mas and some 550's and be fine. However to take advantage of the complete set up you would need an safc. I would get an safc anyway so that you can use ever larger injectors than 550's so you don't have to buy injectors twice.

Edit to save confusion: it can be done by throwing in some 550's but it is not the recomended or ideal way of doing things. Nor is it the best way of spending money on mods seeing as you will most likely over run the 550's in no time.

Zach, I respectfully disagree. if memory serves, 2G MAS flows up to 31% more than 1G MAF and 550s flows 18% more than 450s. Will it run, yes, but like improper BOV venting and running 255 w/o afpr, not recommended. Do it right the first time.

Bruce, I 100% agree with you I should have put but instead of however. I'm just saying that it will work maybe not the best but it worked in my 1g when I had it. I then got an safc for it soon after but between that time and the time of the installation of the afc it worked to get me around. I have learned over the years from owning many a dsm that its better to just spend the bucks and do it right the first time.
