my idle is somewhat odd, itll start at 600-700, i have to ride the gas until its warmed up, then it sits at 1000. after its warmed up if i rev it to 4,000 or so, the car will then idle at 2,000 and sit there until it gradually drops to 1500 and stays there. now what i was going to do was blockoff the FIAV using this: http://www.qprinc.com/images/fiav.jpg

will getting this and rerouting my coolant solve my problems? ive never heard of an idle problem like this and ive been searching for the last 20 minutes. thanks

That plate says it blocks off both the FAIV and ISC passagways.

The FAIV boost idle at startup until the engine coolant heats up and the valve closes. The ISC then regulates idle unless the adjustment is out of it's range (when idle problems start up).

Why not first clean the ISC mechanism (especially the pintle seat) and make sure you have no boost leaks. Then set base idle using the BISS screw and see if your idle is back to normal  :dsm:

well after a bit more searching, neither the FAIV or ISC are absolutely necessary for the functions of a car that gets driven twice a month at MOST with no AC or anything, so i might just buy that plate and do a full blockoff and call it a day. i have no boost leaks and startup is not a concern as i never drive the car as it is. as soon as everything else is clean, ill set base idle and hopefully all my concerns will be answered.

Starting up in the cold (Illinois = brrrrrr ;) ) , you will likely have to regulate the idle manually to keep from stalling with the FAIV blocked off.

In any case this plate is non-permanant (e.g. removable) unlike the JBWeld FAIV defeat mod, so have at it and good luck :dsm:

as little as i drive the car (too much stuff done and im never home) i have no problem regulating the gas by myself til its warmed up, im trying to get rid of anything and everything i dont need in the car, and my idle sucks as it is so whynot take one more thing out taht is NOT helping?

I agree the FAIV is optional, and as you know what it does and are giving up, removal is fine. But the ISC does help in everyday driving as it keeps the car from stalling when the fans come on, come to a stop, press in the clutch..etc.

But as I said it's easily removed so no real long term risk. Though IMO, I'd modify it to allow the ISC to function (drill out that passageway).

Then again you could try and fix the real problem since you have to remove the TB anyway instead of applying a bandaid ;) :dsm:
