So last night, I start up my 1996 2g N\T and I go to pull out of my parking spot, and my wheel is feeling kind of sluggish to turn and at one point outright fights back, I put a little muscle into it and the wheel finally turns with a grind and a scrape. The car turns like normal, drives like normal, and is going fine. Except now there is this nasty grinding noise whenever the car is in motion. I don't know what the deal is with it. Any ideas so I know where to start?

I already thought about maybe the balljoints, but I just recently had that recall done (for the 3rd time) so.... ?

Is the grinding noise more evident when you put on your turn signal? Or is it coming from the rear window?

More info would help. Use your imagination. Perhaps you've not made it a point to remember what exactly is going on when you drive the car, or perhaps you haven't even driven the car enough after the incident to figure out exactly where the noise is coming from, etc?

the grinding noise comes out more when I turn the wheel.

The only things that I can really notice are the fact that the grinding is getting worse.

I've had a few friends in the car driving around and we can all definately tell the noise is coming from the front end, we just can't decide if it's coming from the front passanger side or the front center.

Does it do it when the car is stopped, in motion, or both? Is it grinding or more like whining? Does the noise happen the entire time while the steering wheel is held in turned position, or WHILE being turned? Is all this info classified, or something?

I would definitely check your brakes. There's a very good chance that something just came loose. Now, the only reason the may not be it is because like you mentioned, it was hard to turn the steering wheel until you gave it some muscle and the brakes shouldn't really affect that, but I thought I'd try to help you out and I'd suggest checking your brakes. My 2 cents.

Alright- finally got the POS into a dry, warm garage for a few days for me to take the thing apart. Going to let the ice and snow thaw off and then tackle it tomorrow morning... wish me luck.
