I Think I Have A Tranny Problem!!!

So the other day i fell asleep and curb checked a curb really hard it screwed up my bumper, fender and wheel, i also need a new front suspension (knee assembly) but i was sitiing in the car and i was holding the brake and switching through the gears and it didnt feel like it was engaging at all and when i would put it back in park it would make like a grinding noise....

any help is appreciated

car is a 1998 gs with the auto tranny. wreck happened on passenger side

You've probably snatched an axle out of your transmission. This would explain the grinding when you put it back in park. The differential is turning like it should, but because you don't have the other axle in the trans it's just free wheeling until you put it back in park which then "grinds" until it slows enough for the parking pawl to engage. Don't do it any more or you will take out the park pawl. Check your suspension damage and you may be able to just pop it right back in assuming of course the front end wasn't damaged to the point where this is useless. Good Luck
