hey every one, I own a 95 eclipse GST and heres my problem.

I was driving doing about 90MPH all of a sudden i hear some sort of sound like a pressure release sound....SPHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...but it only lasted about 2 seconds, so i didnt thinkg anything of it...about 6 miles later i feelt that i was losing tons of power and it stoped running, i get out and see whats wrong and a seal where the oil filter is placed had broken and all the oil leaked out, the crank still turns but the timing belt wont, i dont know what it is...im very new at dsms so please if any one knows whats wrong...please let me know something.

Thanks,

Diego.

You are saying is that your crank turns but your timing belt doesn't ? Pull off both timing belt covers and turn the crank again. Did you car over heat by any chance? Did the coolant reservoir really full? I have a feeling your engine siezed up. Anyway check your timing belt first. I think its time for a 6 bolt engine.

And if your crank turns but not your timing belt, it looks like you snapped that as well. When the timing belt goes, usually the head goes with bent valves.

whoa...no the coolant was fine...but yes wheni took the oil cap off there was a bunch of smoke coming from inside the valve cover...so really i have NO clue...and yes i did try to start it twice after it stoped working...and i noticed that the timing belt wasnt moving...so you think that the head is gone?

i really think your motor is gone bro, try and take off both timing covers and crank it agian. usually when the timing goes, its true you motor goes.im not for sure though, do that and then get back to me and well talk som more

I need some help...i don't know much about this so please bare with me...i have a 95 GST...and i have tried to fix all the mistakes the 2 people who had it before me made...yes i should of bought a different one...but i love to work on cars...so the crank turns...but the timing belt doesn't...Ive heard it could be the balance shaft...or possibly the oil pump froze...so all of this is under the timing belt cover or Ive heard...how do you take the cover off? Ive pulled out every screw that i can see but it wont even move... if you wanna see the previous post to maybe help you out a little bit more...here it is...THANK YOU for any help!!!

I am guessing that you have taken off all of the pulleys. If you don't take the water pump pulley, crank pulley, etc it won't come off. Other than that, there shouldn't be anything else that needs to be taken off. It does sound like either your cams seized up in the head or one of your balance shafts seized.

The same thing happened to a 92 AWD that I picked up for cheap. The seal on the oil filter let go and one of the rod bearing made the bottom end seized up.

I pass to you the power:

www.vfaq.com

Obviously, go to the Engine-->Timing Belt area.

Good luck, sounds like you'll need it with the issue you're facing. :thumb:

If the crank turns and the cam's don't the belt is broke. You should be able to just pull the belt through the upper timing belt cover. Try and do that and see if it has tension or not.

i dont think that the timing belt is broke...i mean if it was broke or it snaped i would be able to pull it from either side...but its on there...its tight just like it was before this happened...but to be honest im afraid of what im going to find...

Ok...after a lot of work...LOL...i have a question...on the oil pump sprocket...is that supposed to move freely? i mean turn easy? b/c i tried to turn it with a wrench and to be honest its pretty hard...thanks

what do you mean does it move easy.... is the belt still on? if the belt is on, then obviously it won't move easy.. if the belt it off, then yeah.. you should be able to turn it with your hand easily..
AIM me if you want (profile). i'll be on for a few more minutes

Like Defiant said. Your crank gear milled off the teeth. The belt can be as tight as a drum with the teeth gone. If the crank turns and the cams don't, You have to at least change the belt and do a compression test. With the other symptoms though this may be the least of your problems. Once the belt is on, fill all fluids to full and try to start. You'll know if you seized a rod or main at that point. Sometimes you get lucky. If not, you are in for a lot of work. In answer to the oil pump question, yes it should turn by hand easily. If this is not the case then you will need to remove the pump and inspect it to see why. Good Luck

alright heres the lates news...me and my buddy took the head off the eclipse...i cant tell if a valve is bent or not, but it all looked good to me, it all looked like it was closing right, and sealing right but i might be wrong, the crank turns as well, and we dont see any marks or scratches indicating that the piston walls have been messed up...so in my opinion...i trully believe its the oil pump...unless anything else could get messed up?
