I have a 1997 gst. Cracked the factory head. Had a head redone and flow coated. Installed head arp head studs, cometic gasket, new factory exhaust and intake gaskets and an evo III manifold with a t28. Also all new timing kit with greddy timing belt. Timing marks line up but when car starts it idles roiugh and then revs to 2500 rpm and then drops to 400 to 500 and sometimes stalls out. WHATS GOING ON? This is the first time Ive ever done a motor and I need some guidance.

do a compression test.this should tell you if your timing belt has jumped or was not aligned properly.once you get this out of the way and if your compression is fine then it could be something minor.but from wat it sounds like might be a bent valve

Lots of smoke coming from under heat shield witgh new t28 and evoIII manifold is this normal or am i cooking my turbo?

I just got done doing a head gasket on my car and made a stupid mistake that caused my car to idle horrible. the spark plug wires were in the wrong firing order. double check you chilton's for the sequence. As far as the smoke goes its probably from the coolant you spilled taking the head off. Mine did it too, but it went away.

Plugs are in proper firing order. Im going to buy a compression tester and see what happens.

you might have a oil leak or just burning the old stuff best way to tell if it don't stop is to pull the heat sheild back and just look for a leak
