I have a 97 Mits. Eclipse RS (420A 2.0L DOHC)N/T
& i am on a small buget

I need a new moter cuz i had sumthing hit my oil pan goin down the highway & i blew a piston rod in 1st cylinder so idk what all is any good on this moter!

I need a new moter i think i am going to get a stock 420A to put back in it, but i wana make it FAST!!! I dont know what to do i am just gitting into all of this stuff. so i am asking what should i do should i get a stock moter & then build it to turbo, buy one already built, or what??? I think i should get a stock 420a & buy new pistons, rods, valves, cams & cam gears then put a turbo on it with a fm intercooler. please help me out i am looking for all the advice i can get

It depends on your power goals. If you want reliability with power, don't turbo your 420a. It wasn't meant to be turbo'd. It sounds like you want power, so I'd suggest selling your NA and buying a turbo model. It is much more expensive to convert an NA to a true 4g63 then it is to just buy a used 4g63 powered DSM.

Sure, all that stuff will give you increased power from an NA, but the reliability goes down, as you are pushing much more power through that engine then it was meant to handle. Just turboing it will KILL its reliability, while a 350whp turbo DSM is a reliable DD.

That is mostly accurate and the best way to have a fast DSM is to buy one that is already turbo. But you are in a situation where you already have the non-turbo with a blown motor. If you want a fast DSM then you should build a strong bottom end on your 420A and put it back in. If you can't do a lot to the head right now that's fine that will come down the road, but this would be the best time to do it if you can. By headwork I mean P+P and aggressive cams. Also its a good idea to do a clutch while you have it apart. You could have a fairly quick all motor 420A that is very reliable and then turbo that platform later and still be pretty dependable. Just make sure to get everything in to the internals that you are going to want while you are doing the engine and then worry about the rest as you can. Good luck. :thumb:
