Edmonton,
Can air in the brake system cause the master cylinder to leak? It wasnt leaking until I put on a new rotor and pads. I bled the brakes after replacing the parts, but I was tired and I believe I started the car with the cap off of the master cylinder allowing air back in the system. I took the car for a ride and had a steady drop of fluid leaking from where the master cylinder is and also noticed fluid seepage around it. I know its not the hose or area that I worked on because the master cylinder is on the opposite side. The brakes did not feel firm either so I'm sure there is air in the system.

Air in the system would just cause spongey brakes. Where exactly is it leaking from on the master cylinder?

I'm going to have to look over it again, it was getting dark when I noticed the dripping. Seems odd that it didnt leak at all prior to the bleeding of the one brake.

if the master cylinder cap was off. no big deal, thats not going to get air in the system ... but it will get brake fluid everywhere when you step on the brake pedal if you are lhigh on fluid, having the cap off is part of the normal process in bleeding your brakes.

He might be right here. The leak might be resididual from when you bleed the brakes with the cap off, dripping off the master cylinder. Are you actually low on brake fluid or did you just see the fluid and think it was leaking?

That won't bring air into the system unless you're so low on fluid that there's none in the resevoir.

You're due for a new master cylinder.

Alright everyone, I took a second look at it yesterday. The master cylinder was too full, so i removed just a smige, and cleaned up the mess all around it(I must have missed while pouring without a funnel). I then took it for a ride, I could still see dripping, but it wasnt the master cylinder, the path was coming from the middle of the car. So I drove slow, then walked back and followed the drippage path to the middle of the car. It was condensation on the exhaust from the car running less than <5 minutes ROFL Now I just have to rebleed the brakes to get rid of the spongy feeling.
