I am having this intermittent problem of my car turning off. SAFC display goes dead completely. This behaves like ECU caps, but I have already replaced them a couple years ago and just pulled it to check and they appear fine.
So, I'm in trouble shooting mode and my next guess is to replace the SAFC. I wouldn't mind getting the SAFCII (maybe the only one available new) and don't want to have to re-splice into my harness.
Is the small, flat, black, multi-pin connector that the SAFC uses to tie into the harness the same as the SAFC II? Can I just unplug the SAFC and plug in a II?
Does anyone have any other bright ideas on why this thing just dies? All my connections are soldered with heat shrink. I'm going through them one-by-one now checking for cold solder joints or abraded wires. Nothing yet. I've removed my turbo timer from the system and still does it. I'll just be going down the road and the SAFC display will go blank and then engine dies. Eventually, it comes back--but I can't figure out why. Other than SAFC being bad, maybe its my ECU. It looks fine though.
What about bad ignition switch? The weird thing is that my ECU keeps power when this occurs. It doesn't disconnect my logger. Any ideas would be appreciated. (along with answers to above questions).
